George Snyder has earned the reputation as one of the leading divorce lawyers in Michigan and throughout the country, handling non-routine and complex divorce matters, typically involving sophisticated business issues, closely held corporations and high-asset valuation matters.

His reputation among his colleagues has earned him listing in “The Best Lawyers in America.” He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and served as president of the Michigan Chapter. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has been honored by being selected as a Diplomat of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an organization recognizing the 100 best divorce trial lawyers in the United States.

Throughout his career Snyder has been active in the area of business and corporate litigation and was lead trial counsel in one of the initial cases brought under the Michigan Environmental Protection Act. For many years he handled the defense of substantial legal malpractice actions.

He has been active in community and civic affairs, serving as chairman of the East Michigan Environmental Action Council and a public member of the Inland Lakes and Streams Review Committee for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. In addition, he has served as chairman and member of the board of directors of Bill Knapp’s Michigan, Inc., a family restaurant chain with restaurants in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.

Snyder began his practice in Grand Rapids with Miller, Johnson, Snell and Cummiskey, where his concentration was in civil litigation and labor law. In 1962, he moved to Detroit to become a founding member of Buesser, Buesser, Snyder & Blank. In 1985, he joined with George Meyer and John Kirk to form the firm known as Meyer & Kirk, P.L.L.C.

Snyder, who is a member of the American Bar Association, has been named a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He is listed in “Who’s Who in America,” “Who’s Who in the World,” “The Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers,” and “The Lawyer’s List.” He has spoken frequently on divorce and litigation matters at seminars conducted by various professional organizations including the Michigan Judicial Institute.
